Unique Wedding Readings
Whilst on the look out for something just that little bit different, I came across these 2 readings. They will definitely not be to everyone's taste, but I kind of likes that!
The first one is from the film FRIDA, its an semi auto biography of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Its a rather colourful portrait of her life, and although I haven't seen it, I really want to!
This reading is from the wedding scene, she actually married twice, to the same man!
'I don't believe in marriage. No, I really don't. Let me be clear about that. I think at worst it's a hostile political act, a way for small-minded men to keep woman in the house and out of the way, wrapped up in the guise of tradition and conservative religious nonsense. At best, it's a happy delusion - these two people who truly love each other and have no idea how truly miserable they're about to make each other. But, but, when two people know that, and they decide with eyes wide open to face each other and get married anyway, then I don't think it's conservative or delusional. I think it's radical and courageous and very romantic'
The next one is a more modern approach to a marriage, perhaps a more relaxed approach. Again this won't appeal to everyone, but perhaps you view it this way and it could be perfect.
Bridled Vows - Ian Duhig
'I will be faithful to you, I do vow
but not until the seas have all run dry
etcetera: although I mean it now,
I'm not a prophet and I will not lie.
To be your perfect wife, I could not swear;
I'll love, yes; honour (maybe); won't obey,
but will co-operate if you will care
as much as you are seeming to today.
I'll do my best to be your better half,
but I don't have the patience of a saint;
not with you, at you I may sometimes laugh,
and snap too, though I'll try to learn restraint.
We might work out: no blame if we do not.
With all my heart, I think it's worth a shot.
