What if it rains on my Wedding day?

Unfortunately, the one thing we cannot predict is the weather BUT we can plan for it. Always ALWAYS, have a plan B as you don’t want the pesky weather to derail your day. You’ve planned your intimate outdoor ceremony and on the day the winds howl and the rain lashes down. There is nothing we can do about that, but in my experience, a carefully thought out plan b and some tricks up your antique lace sleeves can embrace the change, it’s how you deal with it that counts. Make sure that you start planning for this early on so that if you do need to use it, it won’t seem like a poor version. Rain on your wedding say is meant to be a sign of good luck, fertility and cleansing, however, it’s hardly what every bride dreams of for their big day. Be prepared to shuffle the schedule incase of dry spells, you can then take advantage of any breaks in the rain. When you are planning, be sure to think of some props that you could use fun umbrellas and bright wellies to create some interesting pictures. Some of the most beautiful dramatic bridal shots can be achieved on a rainy day. Also, think about creating an indoor installation for your photos – a flower wall or arch. Ensure that myself and any guests attending are briefed to know that they may need to assist to move in furniture etc if it suddenly rains and have a plan on where it will be going.

Have some umbrellas ready for the guests (if applicable!) to use dotted around the venue and think about hiring in a trackway, especially if your venue is in a field/grass lands.

Consider your flooring options in a marquee, coconut matting is cheaper, but a hard floor option will prevent any puddling and heels getting stuck. Have some fun with it, perhaps ask the band to play Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ as they enter the venue, or ‘It’s raining men’ by The Weather Girls! Remember that your day will go so fast, so don’t waste energy on things that are out of your control, prepare for it, and embrace it.

Lastly, if you are having an elopement, some of these tips will not apply and you may well not care if it rains! But do have a plan ready in case of incremental weather, as it could well stop your plans (you must think of risks for example, on top of a cliff in a gale is not going to be safe!)
